The objective behind having a knowledge management system is to achieve optimal use of resources. It involves tapping obtainable knowledge of the existing employee base. The premise behind this is that human beings have many useful ideas which can lead to an increase in the output or turnover of the company if tapped properly. The need for professional knowledge managers is being felt to increase the efficiency and turnover of companies facing tight competition in global markets. The work of knowledge managers is also helping employees understand their true value as their best output is achieved by evaluating their thought patterns. This leads to an increase in responsibility among the employees, and the feeling of rivalry is reduced as all workers work towards intellectual gains and a common goal. The first method is the techno-centric method in which the primary attention is on technological knowledge transfer to increase the output of the organization. The second method is the organizational method in which knowledge transfer in a large organization is checked to ensure its proper growth. The third method is the ecological method in which the flow of knowledge within the larger perspective of a community and its interactions is catered to. The concept of knowledge management has led to awareness among employees where ever it has been implemented. Many academic seminars are also conducted so that every employee can communicate on familiar grounds with each other. Knowledge is transferred from one level to the other similar to a hierarchy.
