What Is Organizational Development?
Commercial organizations follow a rigorous process so that they can stay ahead of competition. The whole working of commercial houses hence needs to be very organized and efficient to meet the ever changing needs of the consumer. In the present day and age, the whole market is integrated into one big global bazaar and hence there is more competition. As a result, modern era commercial businesses need to be more focused to stay in the market and continue to churn out higher profits. Commercial businesses first need to pinpoint their long term mission which they then have to follow. This mission is basically the targeted goal of the business house which they have set for themselves. The mission should be very clear and explicit and should motivate the work force to execute their task. Once the mission is discerned, the business concern then tries to find the right process by which to execute it properly within the targeted time frame. Hence, organizational development is the relationship between the process and the mission of the business house. This relationship is what clearly highlights the working efficiency of the business house as well as its dynamism. Organizational development is a long term process and involves continued effort on the part of the working force in a planned manner. This systematic effort of the work force towards achieving the mission is what will help bridge the gap between the current status and their goal. Gradual and sustained working is required as reaching their mission cannot be done in a day, but requires careful and patient planning and approach. The second most important factor in organizational development is the distribution of power in the organization properly. The decentralization of power and work among people will make the work faster and more efficient. But the separation of power between two people should be clearly done to avoid disputes. The entire organization then needs to be headed by one leader at the top who manages the entire hierarchy. Once the work and organization structure is laid, regular analysis of the working becomes a part of organizational development. This analysis helps in promoting efficiency. If any loopholes are found then the working structure is changed immediately. As a result, the business saves on a lot of time too. The analysis of the various processes is done using the behavioral pattern of thesis, anti thesis and synthesis. Through this pattern the best is accepted and less efficient ideas are rejected. Hence organizational development includes the entire working process of the company along with major strategic decisions which include the company philosophy, mission, ideology and its short term and long term goals. This whole process is decided by keeping the present market scenario and its challenges in mind. The organizational development process is carried out for promoting growth and expansion of the company. This is very important in making the base of the company very strong for the future. |
